NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon and chief operating officer Ben Kennedy discussed growth initiatives aimed at expanding media rights deals and getting an iconic American sport in front of younger viewers. Asked about the rise in Formula 1 fans in the United States, Gordon said that despite the differences between the two organizations, he believes motorsports is growing 'everybody's growing along with it.' Gordon and Kennedy also discussed the important of well-known manufacturers to the success of NASCAR in the domestic market.

House Votes to End DHS Shutdown as Threats of Airport Chaos Loom

he longest partial shutdown in US history is nearing an end as the House on Thursday passed funding for most of the Homeland Security Department, just days ahead of missed paychecks for Transportation Security Administration workers that threatened to throw airports into chaos for a second time this year. The Senate unanimously passed the funding package weeks ago, and the White House has said President Donald Trump will sign it. Republican Steve Daines joined to discuss as well as the looming FISA deadline. Sen. Daines said the Senate easily pass a 45-day extension of a government surveillance authority to give more time to come up with an agreement to extend the law for a longer term.

Canada Launches Sovereign Wealth Fund for Major Projects

Canada will create its first sovereign wealth fund to provide financing for large infrastructure projects and domestic companies, Prime Minister Mark Carney said, pledging to offer Canadian investors the opportunity to buy in. The new vehicle, dubbed the Canada Strong Fund, will be seeded with C$25 billion ($18.4 billion) from the federal government, Carney announced Monday in Ottawa. It will be professionally managed and independent of the government, meant to "invest alongside the private sector in nation-building projects, on a fully commercial basis," he said.  Peter Bethlenfalvy, finance minister of Canada's Ontario Province joined Balance of Power to discuss, the Iran war's impact on energy markets and efforts by governments to counter it.

Trump Being 'Humiliated' in Iran Talks, German Leader Says

The US is being "humiliated" by Iranian leaders as President Donald Trump struggles to negotiate an end to the war, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in comments that risk driving a further wedge in transatlantic relations.  In unusually candid terms, the German leader said he didn't see "what strategic exit the Americans are now choosing," adding that Tehran's negotiators are proceeding "very skilfully or indeed very skilfully not negotiating." Former State Department official Heather Conley joined Bloomberg's Balance of Power and said the US and Iran are stuck in a standoff until one side feels enough economic pain to force a return to the negotiating table.
