Barclays CEO Says AI Is Having a 'Creeping Impact'

Barclays CEO CS Venkatakrishnan discusses the use of artificial intelligence in the banking industry, saying the technology is having a "creeping" impact on the UK lender. "We are seeing things getting on the margin a little more efficient in certain parts," he says. "Fundamental impact I think it's coming, but I don't see it yet," he adds during a conversation with Bloomberg's Francine Lacqua at the Global Markets and Banking Summit 2026 in London.

StanChart to Cut Thousands of Jobs in AI Push

Standard Chartered said it plans to eliminate thousands of support roles over the next four years, joining the ranks of global lenders using artificial intelligence to trim headcount. "It's not about cost cutting," Chief Executive Officer Bill Winters said at a press briefing in Hong Kong. "It's about having a structurally more productive environment that is fit for future."
