Nanollose (ASX:NC6) has extended its Collaboration Agreement with Birla Cellulose, a business unit of Grasim Industries, for an additional two years.
The agreement stipulates that Nanollose and Grasim will jointly own any new IP (intellectual property) generated in the project.
The companies previously created a high-tenacity lyocell fibre from microbial cellulose, a tree-free form of cellulose made by a natural fermentation process on a range of wastes and by-products from the food and agricultural industries.
The first pilot production of fibre containing the microbial cellulose has been successful, with samples sent to several fashion brands for appraisal, and feedback from textile and fashion professionals has been positive.
The two companies also made a 3D-knitted garment from 100% microbial cellulose and received the prestigious Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year Award for their innovative Nullarbor fibre.
