A 26-year-old gang rape survivor from India’s northern state of Haryana has returned home after spending a week in hospital, police said.
The woman, a mother of two, was admitted to hospital in Faridabad on 30 December with serious head and facial injuries and multiple fractures.
Police said she was assaulted after accepting a lift in an ambulance offered by two men while waiting for transport shortly after midnight.
The suspects allegedly drove her to a deserted area, raped her inside the vehicle and threw her onto the road while it was moving.
Officers arrested the two men soon after the incident and seized the ambulance used in the attack.
The survivor was discharged on Monday night following medical treatment and surgery, police confirmed.
Senior police officer Mukesh Kumar said authorities have sought court approval for an identification parade inside the prison.
Once permitted, the survivor will be asked to identify the suspects from a group of inmates, police said.
One stood outside the van and kept watch while the other raped the woman inside.
Yashpal Yadav said.
A hospital doctor said the woman was brought in around 05:30 with extensive injuries.
Social worker and opposition politician Shalini Chopra said the survivor was recovering but still in pain.
The case has sparked nationwide outrage and renewed debate over sexual violence in India.
