Hyundai Motor Group said it will begin using human-like robots in its factories from 2028 as automation accelerates across manufacturing.
The South Korean carmaker showcased Atlas, a humanoid robot developed by Boston Dynamics, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Hyundai said it plans to integrate the robots across its global manufacturing network, including plants in the United States.
Atlas is designed for industrial use and will work alongside humans while autonomously managing machinery.
Hyundai said the robots will reduce physical strain on workers and take on hazardous tasks.
The company said the robots will gradually assume more responsibilities over time.
Hyundai did not disclose how many robots will be deployed initially or the cost of the programme.
People will still be needed to train the robots and take on new roles.
Jaehoon Chang said.
Other major firms, including Amazon, Tesla and BYD, have also announced plans to use humanoid robots.
Hyundai’s announcement follows its pledge to invest more than 20 billion dollars in expanding US manufacturing and advanced technologies.
