
Talga Group (ASX:TLG) has secured a Japanese patent for its advanced natural graphite anode technology, strengthening its intellectual property position in a key battery market as China tightens export controls on graphite products.
Japanese Patent No. 7779483 covers Talga’s proprietary process for producing high-performance graphite anode materials with enhanced energy density, long life and fast-charge capability, underpinning the company's Talnode-C product range.
The patent, which provides exclusive rights in Japan until at least 2040, follows the grant of a corresponding US patent and coincides with the completion of multi-year anode testing programs with several Japanese battery cell manufacturers.
The development comes at a critical moment for the global battery supply chain, with graphite anodes accounting for about half of a lithium-ion battery's active volume and taking on increased geopolitical significance after China announced an immediate ban on exports of certain “dual-use” graphite products to Japan.
Talga said the patented technology positions the company to offer a sustainable, secure alternative supply for battery makers, leveraging its Vittangi Project to support supply chain resilience amid growing demand for electric vehicles, robotics and energy storage systems.
